GBHS Instrumental Music Member Jackets are now available in the charms store. This jacket is available to any student who is a member of the GBHS Instrumental Music Department. Students can get their name and instrument/section embroidered on the front of the jacket. This jacket is OPTIONAL for members. Member jackets are only ordered a few time throughout the school year. If you want this jacket for the fall season, now is the time to order it.
Cost of the Member Jacket is $65.00 and must be paid in full prior to us ordering the jacket.

#3 Put together your scrip order by following the instructions
#4 When you are done with your order, give your payment (cash or check) to your student and have them turn it into Mr. Hutchison. (Please put “for scrip order” in the memo of the check.)
#5 Once your payment has been received, your completed order will be given to your student that day.

Congratulations to both Chris Wilson and Dan Holland! Both drum majors attended drum camp at MSU, and both earned the "Big Ten Award". This is a very high honor that is not award to everyone! Great job! We are all very proud of your accomplishments!
CONGRATULATIONS to all of those who took part in Week 2 Summer Practice Challenge The individual winner for the most minutes practiced was Thomas Volker. With 416.25 AVERAGE minutes, and the section with the most minutes practiced was the Altos. With 91.30% of members participating, and the section with the most participation was the Color Guard. Congratulations! All ALTO members that participated this week has earn 1 Director Points, and THOMAS has earned 5 Director Points! The ALTOS will be first in line for all meals on Monday. TODATE ... the band has practiced a total of 42,873 minutes. That is AWESOME! We are now on in the Week 3 of the challenge. REMEMBER that sectional work can be counted in the challenge so be sure to record those minutes!

Today is the last day for The Summer Practice Challenge Week 1. Throughout the week the leader board has been changed numerous times. As of 11am this morning, Hunter is in the leader for most minutes practiced, Altos are in the lead for most participation, and in the lead for highest average minutes in the Color Guard. Recently, we had someone donate 7 DVD's of the 2013 MCBA State Finals. This is a COMPLETE dvd set of all 4 flights! Thats right, all 4 flights, 11 bands in each flight, a total of 44 performances! We have placed them in the charms store. CHECK IT OUT! These will go quickly!
Back by popular demand is our “SUMMER PRACTICE CHALLENGE!” As you all know, the only true way to improve as a performer is to practice on your own. We meet as a group to put our sounds together as an ensemble, but personal practice is when you actually get better at your craft.
We started the Summer Practice Challenge to reward students for their practice accomplishments. We will continue with this again this summer. So … How does it work?

Dear Grand Blanc Marching Band Family:
I am junior marching band trombone player Matt Cocagne. I will be completing an Eagle Scout project in July and August to benefit the Grand Blanc High School Music Program. I have planned and will provide the leadership for improvements to the semi-truck trailer used to haul gear to marching band and indoor drum line competitions. The plan is to add access to the front side door of the trailer, increasing efficiency and reducing load time.
I am communicating with you about this project because it will require help from both parents and band members to accomplish. The band members, along with some Boy Scouts, will be help as laborers to build and install some of the necessary components. Also the project will require financial / material donation support. I have a budget of approximately $750 for supplies. I plan to raise that money from private donations.
I created a GoFundMe account to receive money for the project. You can donate the money at the link I will put at the end of this letter.
If you have access to and are able to donate lumber, fasteners, or carpet remnants; the project will require those materials.
I thank you in advance for any labor or material or financial support you are able to provide.
Throughout the summer, we will be holding summer sectional rehearsals. All students are expected to attend these rehearsal, unless prior arrangements are made. All sectionals will be on Thursdays, and everyone will meet at the high school. See below for dates and times. If you are unable to attend, students are REQUIRED to fill out the Absent Request Form, located on the band website.

Today, Mr. Finkbeiner was named the 2014 Grand Blanc High School Elective Teacher of the Year! This is a HUGE honor and we are very proud of you! Your hard work and dedication to our students is appreciated. Congratulations Mr. Finkbeiner!

The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic bands play together for the GBHS Graduation. We still need parent volunteers to chaperone the evening performance. Times are from 5:30 pm to approximately 10pm. Slots are available on Charms to sign up.

Marching Band Paperwork Reminders
Due to still using the current school year Band Booster Budget, the checks coming in for Band Camp will not be able to be deposited into our account until July. We have all checks attached to the student paperwork until then. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

New Fundraising Committee
We have many fundraising activities throughout the year to help with Marching Band, the Day Bands, Auxiliary Bands, and individual student accounts. We are also looking at the possibility of new uniforms for Marching Band and the Day Bands. We are looking for motivated parents interested in helping with current fundraising events, and creating and implementing new events. The Band Booster spirit wear is on sale! Many of you asked for a baseball cap, and it has been added. An order form will be emailed to you with a copy of the new flyer. Also, the flyer is on the Instrumental Dept. website. The clothing is also in Charms for those who would like to order that way.
Many of you know about Scrip. The process of selling cards from various retailers throughout our area. We purchase the cards at a discount and sell them at face value thus making a profit for our band!! Please see the Charms store for availability!! It’s easy to make a purchase online, send in the payment with your student, and the order will be filled the next day! Thank you for making Scrip a part of your weekly needs!! Our kids will really benefit from your purchases!!
