The following is an e-mail that I received today. As we always discuss, being professional on and off the field is what makes you a champion. Your actions define you. I was very pleased to get this e-mail, and wanted to share it with you all. Great job!
Just wanted to relate a story I heard from my wife. She hates using the bathrooms at the HS. Mostly because kids can act a little crazy and around my daughters that makes her nervous. Last night she was very impressed with your band students. She went in to the bathroom and your marchers were busy getting ready. They apologized for using up too much space, were helpful, said thank you to my daughter for picking something up they had dropped. My wife left feeling like these kids were wonderful! They were courteous, used manners and demonstrated respect. It is a wonderful reflection of our school and also of your program. So many times it's the things that people do when in uniform when not doing their jobs that make big impressions. Usually negative impressions! Your marchers are great on and off the field. Well done!

Band Parents, the first competition is coming up fast! We need snack donations for the bus ride home after each competition. The kids are usually starving and really appreciate the food. Please make sure the snacks are individually wrapped. The following are good choices: Rice Krispy treats, Goldfish, Cheezits, Pretzels, Animal Crackers, Slim Jims, Chips, Cookies, Fruit Chews/roll ups, snack/granola bars , etc.. Please, no candy. Donations can be dropped off or sent to band practice with your student.
Friday's Homecoming meal will be pizza. There are a handful of items to sign up to bring. Our biggest need is people to pick up pizza at 3:00. If you can donate or pick up pizza and bring it to school, please sign up here. Thank you!

The school has provided the band department a number of school lockers for the students that are in marching band, winter guard, pep-band, etc. (This is in addition to your instrument locker, located in the band hall.) Since it is difficult to keep the band room locked during the marching band season, this locker is a safe place to keep your personal items during rehearsal. We have had problems in the past with students getting personal items stolen when we are at rehearsal. YOU SHOULD NEVER LEAVE ANY PERSONAL ITEMS IN THE BAND ROOM! Always keep your personal items locked in your locker! If you are a freshmen, you can have TWO school lockers. (One at the west campus for your daily use, and one at the east campus for after school band activities.) If you are a sophomore, junior or senior, you will only be allowed ONE school locker. You do not have to have a band locker, but it is highly recommended that you have one. REMEMBER: The gates by the main office are locked at 3:30pm everyday. ONLY band lockers are located on the outside of these gates.
If you want a band locker, please fill out this ONLINE FORM. You can also see Mr. Hutchison or Mr. Finkbeiner before or after rehearsal. Our goal is to have all lockers assigned BEFORE school starts. THANK YOU!
The final run through video is now posted on the visual page. This video was taken on Saturday morning. Because we are a competitive marching band, we do not want this video out to the public. Congrats to the 2013 GBHS Marching Band for an OUTSTANDING band camp. The students learned over half of their show with music, drill and color guard work. This was the most productive camp we have every had. We are so proud of all the members! We decided to present students with awards at the end of camp, to acknowledge their hard work. There were so many great students, it was a very difficult decision. Below is a list of students and sections who earned these awards. Congrats to everyone!
Today is the last full day of band camp. This morning we finished learning the drill for the 3rd song. The students continue to work hard in every rehearsal. We are very proud of their progress and hope that they continue in this positive direction. The members are in sectionals until 3:15 and then will start rehearsing again at 6:30. Our goal for today is have the drill, music and guard work completed for #3. Great job GB!
All is well at band camp. The weather has been GREAT! Students are continually working hard at their show, and we think that you will be happy with the results. Today is another day of new drill, sectional time and full band in the evening. If you can make it out to watch, we start at 6:30. Kids love to have a crowd when they perform. Thank you to all the parents who are working hard to make the camp run smoothly. We have had no problems. Do not forget, all parents need to pick up their students at 1pm on Saturday.
Not sure what Mr. Finkbeiner was grumpy about, but he does not look too happy.
Day three of band camp is well on its way. At this time, students are in sectional rehearsal. Students are doing a great job keeping up with everything we are throwing at them. We have the first two piece on the field and we started learning #3 today.
Today is also known as "Star Spangled Banner" and "School Song Day". For those of you who have been around the band, you know what I am talking about. :)
We are very pleased with their progress and know that this will be a very successful year for them. Keep up the hard work Grand Blanc.
This is a friendly reminder of activities for the remainder of the week!
Today... Thursday at 6 pm is the chaperone meeting in the auditorium at East campus. It's also the day for pictures. There will be a group shot taken and each band member will have the opportunity to have an individual picture taken as well. Please have your child to the school with enough time to put their uniform on and be out on the football field by 6! Also bring picture order forms and payment at this time!
Friday night is our annual tailgate party outside the band room! (In case of rain, we will be inside the front doors). Please bring chairs, a dish to pass and your place settings! The boosters will be grilling hotdogs for you!! After rehearsal we will load the semi for camp! Many hands make light work!! Also remember to bring any medication your child requires at camp. Thank you everyone for all your help! We look forward to seeing you tomorrow and Friday!!
Drum Corps International’s World Championships week got underway, Monday, Aug. 5, as 14 Open Class corps came together at Ames Field in Michigan City, Ind. for the first of two days of competition.
Legends’ (8th, 84.10) production “Ichabod” tells the classic story of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” complete with a crowd-pleasing finish depicting the headless horseman’s murder of Ichabod on a bridge set on the 50-yard line.According to Legends front ensemble member Nicole Atkinson, “We did everything we needed to do and put on a great show today. We’ll think of tomorrow as just another run-through, because every time we perform, it’s a chance to win over the crowd.”
