Dear GBHS Band Family -
Dottie asked us to post the following ...
It is with a heavy heart that I write this email. I have been in the hospital here in Grand Blanc since 8/19 and just got out on 8/31. My cancer has spread to my liver and my bone marrow is no longer producing blood because it has pre Leukemia. My hemoglobin is very low and so are my red platelets. There is no treatment available to me. I do not know how long I have to live. The doctors don't even know. Because of my low hemoglobin and platelets, I still have to go in and get transfusions for blood and platelets. That is what is keeping me alive for now. Eventually those will have to stop and let nature takes its course.
Please keep me and my girls and my family in your prayers to give us the strength to get thru this.
I want you to know what an honor it was to work with both of you in the band program. Take care and God Bless.
Not much happening now, but follow us on INSTAGRAM! Much more to follow! Search for GBHSBand, or click the link below!

All pledge forms and money are due to the Scrip box by the Thursday, August 20th evening practice.
MANY band students are taking advantage of a school band locker. Instead of e-mail each and everyone of you back, we will just place your locker information on your profile page of Charms. This will make things easier for us, and a place for you to go to when you forget your combo. :)
If you still have not requested a locker, click on the link below to fill out the form. WE ONLY HAVE A LIMITED NUMBER OF LOCKERS!
Dear Marching Band Students:
The school has provided the band department a number of school lockers for the students that are in marching band, winter guard, pep-band, etc. (This is in addition to your instrument storage locker, located in the band hall.) Since it is difficult to keep the band room locked during the marching band rehearsal, this locker is a safe place to keep your personal items during rehearsal. We have had problems in the past with students getting personal items stolen when we are at rehearsal. YOU SHOULD NEVER LEAVE ANY PERSONAL ITEMS IN THE BAND ROOM! Always keep your personal items locked in your locker! You do not have to have a band locker, but it is highly recommended that you have one. REMEMBER: The gates by the main office are locked at 3:30pm everyday. ONLY band lockers are located on the outside of these gates.
If you want a band locker, please follow the link below to fill out the online form. After a few days, see Mr. Finkbeiner or Mr. Hutchison and we will give you your locker number and combination. Our goal is to have all lockers assigned BEFORE school starts. THANK YOU!
We final received our new trailer! It is an enclosed 2014 RC 16x7 trailer. It is SPECTACULAR. This trailer was only pulled on the road twice, otherwise it was only used for storage. It is so clean inside and out it looks brand new! We will be using this trailer to help with the winter guard, winter drumline and props for the marching band. We will still need the semi for the marching band, but this will be a great way to transport equipment for our smaller groups. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated money, and to those that helped with the fundraisers to purchase this trailer. When we all work together towards a common goal, great things happen! Thank you Grand Blanc!

For the past few years, we have being using a text message reminder system called Remind101. We are doing our best to keep the student informed, and to help remind them of band related assignments and activities. For those students who opted to join, we send them text reminders when practice logs, assignments, permission slips, etc. are all due. We also use it to remind them what time to be at performances, rehearsals and other class related activities. We have been using Remind101 for a long time, and are happy with the results. (It is important to note that this is purely a reminder system, and students and parents are not able to text us back. This is simply a safe way for us to quickly get reminders to our students.)
We would like to invite you to join a MARCHING BAND PARENTS ONLY Remind101 class. We will being using this to remind/inform parents of important marching band dates and activities. Band fundraising, chaperone needs, volunteer reminders, meal updates, and just a few things I believe we will use this for. All texts will be marching band specific.
