August 11th - 16th
What is it?
It is mandatory for GBHS Marching Band members to attend Marching Band Camp. The reason for this is to give students a wonderful opportunity to acquaint themselves with one another, to learn and or recall the art of marching, and to work on the material for the competitive show season. No previous experience is necessary because we start with the very basics, and build from there.
The students will be fed three meals a day and snacks in the evening. Meals are served buffet style, which should meet the needs of most special dietary needs. Please feel free to contact the Band Boosters if you have any concerns or special needs about the camp meals. Chaperones are invited to eat meals with the students.
Medication at Camp
Please complete the band health form in its entirety and return with camp payment and other necessary forms. We keep all health forms in a First Aid Notebook and the notebook travels with the band to all events, in case of an emergency. This information is imperative if we need to contact you.
While at camp, we will be using health personnel. They monitor medication distribution and it is very important that students with asthma have their inhalers at rehearsals and performances. Students will be trained on severe weather and fire safety procedures upon arrival at camp.
When and Where is Camp?
Band Camp will be held Monday, August 11 through Saturday, August 16, 2014. We will be attending Colombiere Conference Center in Clarkston. The facility will be most accommodating to our needs with a marked practice field and several spots for sectional rehearsals. In severely inclement weather there are alternate facilities for practicing. Students will be well advised to bring clothing for a wide variety of weather conditions. Swimming will be available to the students at no extra cost, during their free time in the afternoons.
Transportation to Camp
Transportation to camp will be by school bus. Students will not be allowed to travel to the camp in private vehicles. Students need to report to the High School on Monday, August 11th, at 7:00 a.m. It is imperative that all students arrive on time. Students need to be picked up by a parent or an authorized adult at Colombiere Conference Center, 9075 Big Lake Road, Clarkston, MI 48347 at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16th.
Extra Activities at Camp
During afternoon free time, swimming, will be available at no extra charge. A lifeguard will be on duty. Please bring a towel from home, and note that 2-piece bathing suits are not allowed.
